The study “Sozialraum Münzviertel” examines the Münzviertel in terms of its social and spatial effects: Which social actors and institutions are located in the Münzviertel and what services do they offer? How has the neighborhood changed since 2013? And what effects can be derived for the issue of homelessness in particular? The qualitative study is based on on-site visits and guided interviews with local stakeholders. The usage structures in the Münzviertel are divided into residential, social and cultural facilities as well as service, commercial and hotel uses and described in terms of their changes over time. A large number of the local social institutions are portrayed in their – often supra-regional – impact and the main focus is placed on the Werkhaus Münzviertel and the networking formats between the institutions. The descriptions are transferred to the topics and fields of action of social infrastructures, urban development for the common good and public-civic partnerships. The final recommendations for action range from the recognition of the Münzviertel as a key social infrastructure for the entire city of Hamburg, the expansion of publicly subsidized housing and the testing of the Housing First approach to the overarching demand for a freeze on the sale of public properties.
