The St. Pauli Hafenkante! continues!
Together with projektbüro, we have been commissioned by Hamburgs environmental authority to continue the participation process as part of the development of the St. Pauli Hafenkante since summer 2025.
Our task is the conception and implementation of the participation process up to the start of construction in 2029, the technical support of the landscape architecture planning workshop process and the further development of site-specific principles.
As experts and consultants, we are accompanying the workshop process with projektbüro in order to continue the topics and findings from the participatory process and continuously transfer them into the planning. In the workshop process, three planning teams are developing a spatial design for the St. Pauli Hafenkante based on the findings from the previous planning phases.
As an important site-specific basis for the workshop process, we produced the “Fischmarkt 2030+” study in the summer. It shows the spatial and organizational needs of the fish market and the market vendors and consolidates them into a future-oriented picture of the location.
For the analysis, we were on site several times at different times and held numerous discussions with the fish market stakeholders. A specially developed questionnaire supplemented the survey and provided qualitative insights into the technical, organizational and future requirements of the “Fish Market 2030+”. The spatial and organizational structures were mapped and brought together in a plan representation that highlights the level of use in particular. In order to depict the special situations and atmosphere of the fish market in future scenarios, the comic artist Erik Müller was invited to translate the ‘Fish Market 2030+’ into an independent, visionary narrative.
From 2026, we will work with projektbüro to further strengthen urban practice at Hafenkante and integrate site-specific knowledge into the ongoing planning and management processes. Together with the Park Fiction Committee, the selected landscape architecture firm, neighbors and interested parties, we want to carefully develop concepts from the desired production and landscape design and test them in 1:1 situations on site.
