As an association of artists, designers and urban sociologists (observing/collecting, building/testing, reflecting/understanding) and various work areas, we are developing a new kind of sculpture park. The focus is on the spatial and social structure of the old recycling yard (PARKS) in Hammerbrook. The past, present and future of the 5,000 square meter public space will be examined.
‘touch don’t touch’ understands sculpture as a social structure, performative action and relational object. A sculpture – close to a total work of art – that seeks contact and creates relationships. We claim that the Alter Recyclinghof can already be seen as a new kind of sculpture park, a thesis that was tested and (further) developed in the course of ‘touch don’t touch’.
As part of ‘touch don’t touch’, members of UVM develop the work “Dach im Dach”, which encompasses both the formal processing of the architectural structure of the only public roof in Hamburg, as well as the questioning, further development and new construction of the social structure on which it is based and the question of a possible operator model. Together with light artist Mara-Madeleine Pieler and KUBBUK, the new lighting concept for the roof and new spatial elements are being developed.
Four further works by different artists will be created on the memory and forgetting of translocal history, prevalence and fields of fear in urban space, radio as a virtual discussion space and the transfer of the process into a ceramic mural that refers to existing, past and future uses and potentials.
The sponsor of this project is Hallo: e.V., and members of UVM are significantly involved.
